Up in the Cotswold Hills, Blockley's Mill Dene Grotto is a twentieth century Shell Grotto. It dates from the 1980s when it was constructed by Wendy and Peter Dare. It contains a figure is a faun with pan-pipes and water is piped over the top of the grotto forming a cascade across the entrance. The grotto is located in an attractive one hectare landscaped garden with a stream running past the cave.

Twelve mills are recorded in 1085 at Blockley in the Domesday Book. This particular mill ground flour and was known as Wagstaff's Mill in the 19th century when it became a piano factory. By the early twentieth century it had become the Vulcan Forge specialising in iron castings. Then, in the 1920s, the mill had passed into the hands of the Deverall family and was renamed yet again, this time to Mill Dene. The mill itself was burned down in 1932 leaving the millers house. After rebuilding the mill the property was divided into two units which were sold separately. The Dare family acquired one unit in 1964 and the other half in 1976 enabling the property to be consolidated into a single holding again. The extensive ornamental landscaping was orchestrated by the Dare family who now make it available for public viewing.
